Our Shropshire sheep flock keeps down grass and
herbs reliably in the Christmas tree plantation. This is the
herbicide progressive Christmas tree farmers use today. The animals live in small flocks outside all year round. Protected by fences against foxes they have a nearly wild life. At the end of January, beginning of February, we must bring them into the stall to bear their young. You must keep down grass and herbs. Otherwise, the lower branches do not get enough sunlight; they become brown and dry. Also high grass favors the attack of fungus because of the higher humidity in the micro climate. Not only our sheep, but also a lot of other animals like birds, rabbits and badgers find protected room for survival in the fenced Christmas tree plantations. |
